Allegations against father! Hamid Mir sends notice to Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan for Rs 1 billion damages
ISLAMABAD (Monitoring Desk) – Leading journalist Hamid Mir has sent a legal notice to Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan seeking Rs 1 billion in damages for making allegations against his father Professor Waris Mir.
The notice said that the provincial minister in his writings made baseless allegations against Waris Mirpur for supporting India, Mukti Bahini and anti-state enemies.
The false allegations were aimed at tarnishing the image of Waris Mir’s family and Hamid Mir. Waris Mir never supported the establishment of Bangladesh. Waris Mir’s life was a struggle for truth, justice, democratic principles and freedom of expression.
In the past, if no apology was sought, a defamation suit would be filed against the provincial minister. The notice demanded that he apologize for his statement within 14 days or pay Rs 1 billion in damages.
