(R) Asim Bajwa, Dr. Zafar Mirza, Dr. Moeed Yousuf, Chairman NDMA, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Cove-19 Dr. Faisal and other senior officials were present.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan also attended the meeting through video link. The meeting was attended by Special Assistant for Health Dr. Zafar Mirza Coronavirus victim statistics, certified cases, geographical spread, testing across the country. He gave a detailed briefing on the number of cases and the rate of increase in cases.
The meeting discussed issues related to the availability of beds in hospitals, provision of medical equipment and presence of professional staff as per future statistics and changing situation. He also reviewed the steps taken to increase the capacity of health facilities and hospitals. Talking about the lockdown caused by Corona virus and its consequent negative impact on the daily lives of the common man, he said that In this extraordinary situation, we have to maintain a balance in the precautionary measures against hunger and epidemic.
The Prime Minister said that the threat to our population is far greater than the threat posed by lockdown. He said that the lockdown was not a cure for Corona but a temporary measure. “We have to make our decisions based on the ground realities and the plight of the people. We have to keep in mind that in this situation, until our economy is restored, the problems of our poor and needy will increase,” he said. “We understand that the closure of business has caused irreparable damage to the economy, but this step was taken under duress,” he said. “The corona virus is a fact,” he said. The Prime Minister said that in the current situation, we have to make it possible to abide by the rules and regulations laid down for the prevention and protection of Corona so that the lives of the people are protected.
The Prime Minister said that the people are a friend of the people. Stressing on the importance of adopting an awareness-based approach, he said that instead of forcibly taking precautionary measures, the public should be made aware in this regard. He directed the police to be friendly with the people instead of being harsh. Noting the key role of media and media representatives in raising public awareness, the Prime Minister said that he appreciated the role of media and said that media should play a more effective role in encouraging the people to take precautionary measures and abide by rules and regulations.
Referring to the problems faced by the common man with regard to transport, the Chief Minister Punjab and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that the closure of transport has severely affected the business and mobility of the common man.
