ISLAMABAD: According to state media, Pakistan and Russia have agreed to promote an important bilateral agenda and close cooperation in the regional context.
In a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed that Pakistan considers Russia an important partner and wants to pursue a long-term and multilateral partnership with it.
The two Foreign Ministers discussed issues of mutual interest, including the global coronavirus epidemic, cooperation on multilateral issues, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and regional issues. Shah Mehmood Qureshi condoled the loss of precious lives in Russia due to Coronavirus.
The Foreign Minister apprised his Russian counterpart of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s appeal for a global initiative to facilitate the repayment of loans to developing countries. The Russian Foreign Minister supported the facilitation of debt repayment and assured to play a positive role in this regard.
Regarding occupied Kashmir, Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed deep concern over the ongoing double lockdown by the Indian Army, violent military operations, and conspiracies to change the proportion of the population in the occupied valley.
He stressed the need for immediate action to end this dire situation. The two Foreign Ministers also discussed the situation in Afghanistan in the light of recent positive developments.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Afghan-led peace process and stressed Pakistan’s positive role in the US-Taliban peace deal.
