The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has announced a temporary ban on the video game ‘Pub G’, meaning ‘Player in No Battle Ground’.
The PTA said in a statement on Wednesday that the video game was being temporarily banned following complaints from various sections of society.
The PTA statement said that the complaints received from the public stated that “this game is addictive, a waste of time and harms the physical and mental health of children”.
According to a PTA statement, recent media reports also say that the game has led to suicides. It may be recalled that a few days ago, Lahore police had not said that two youths in the city had committed suicide after being banned from playing the video game ‘Pub G’.
According to the PTA, the Lahore High Court had asked the agency to look into the matter and take action on the complaints. A hearing will be held on July 9, according to the agency.
The agency said public opinion would be taken into account and an e-mail address had been provided in a press release.
It may be recalled that on the 24th, according to the Lahore police, two youths had committed suicide in four days in the city for refusing to play the video game ‘Pub G’, after which the police decided to stop all such violent games. And PTA will be requested to block online pages.
According to reports, a 16-year-old resident of Multan Road, Lahore, decided to commit suicide when his parents forbade him from playing online games and he committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan.
According to the police, even after committing suicide, the PubG game was playing on his mobile.
Two days before the incident, another 20-year-old man from the city had committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan due to the same game.
Speaking to the BBC, DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan said that the rise in suicide among the youth due to games promoting violence is a sad and worrying process.
He said that these games are like a drug that is addictive so parents and children should not play such games too much while having control over themselves.
What’s the end of the PubG game?
Speaking to the BBC, a pub G user said that the game is played as part of a mission to fight the enemy and use guns.
The user said: ‘We can play the game alone and more than one person can join it. So to defend ourselves, we have to beat the enemy and win the game.
He added that he plays this game on the computer and “because this game is running online, you can’t leave this game anywhere in the meantime.” Even if you are going to eat or get up for any work, the other party will kill you.
The user added that there are two types of this game. One is what is played on the computer and the other is what people play on the mobile.
In the PubG game played on mobile, you have many options, such as you can change clothes and your weapon.
The game is played all over the world due to which complaints about its negative effects have been received from all over the world. Another feature has been introduced in the game which helps to show that your screen time has become too much. So close the game now.
But it is now up to the player to stop it on time or keep playing.
‘Such games should be banned’
DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan further said that the job of the police is not only to catch the culprits.
“We have other responsibilities, such as community policing, in which we have a responsibility to change and monitor extremism and attitudes in our society.
“Therefore, we have decided that we will make a request to the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to stop all such games, including PubG, which contain an element of violence. Should be blocked from accessing users. He further added that only PTA has the authority to block all these applications and online pages.
He said that PTA has people who can review and analyze online content which is spreading extremism in the society as there may be many such games besides PubG. Which we don’t even know, so we can only apply.

Can games like Pubji lead to suicide?
“I think it would be wrong to say that a child or a teenager committed suicide just because of a game because it is not possible to commit suicide,” psychologist Dr. Farah Malik told the BBC. There is only one reason.
“Anyway, everyone is confused and frustrated at the moment because of Corona, and this attitude is growing in children because they don’t express their concerns easily,” he said.
“Usually children and young people used to spend time with their friends or at school or out of the house but now they have nothing to do and they are all trapped at home. In that case, they have no choice but to play digital games or search online. Which is why they spend most of their time in the open.
He added that children who take a big step like suicide already have such thoughts in their personality and this is not due to a single factor.
“We’ve seen a lot of hormonal changes in babies as they get older. Such as voice changes or physical changes in boys. We don’t care about that, and we make fun of them and ridicule them, which also causes them frustration. Or the parents not having a friendly relationship with the children or scaring them all the time.
Dr. Farah said that these are all aspects due to which the child climbs up and stays away from everyone including the family and keeps himself busy with other things. “In the language of psychology, we call children who can commit suicide ‘juveniles,'” he said.
“Usually these children have some symptoms such as not listening to anyone, lack of tolerance, fighting and arguing, even with children their age, if parents stop them from responding strongly to something and That includes giving.
“To prevent such children, we need to understand them and explain them with love, and parents should start this process at an early age,” he said.
“Try to do everything yourself with the children. Try to be their friend and solve their problems.
He further said that in this difficult time due to the epidemic, apart from the parents, the government has a responsibility to make arrangements to keep the mental condition of the children and youth in good health and to guide them. Has not been noticed at all.
